A letter to my new friend Grace Cooper

Dear Grace,

Your mom sent us a note today telling us how excited she is that you are coming. I just wanted to say that I can't wait to meet you! I know that you will be perfect in every way. One of my favorite things about life is that everyone here is so very different. It's so wonderful to see the diversity in the world you will soon be entering into. Everyone is so wonderfully different! There are people of all shapes, sizes and colors. Some of the people you will meet will not even speak the same language as you. The differences in us is what makes us perfect. And you, precious Grace, will be uniquely you; just as we all are. I know I don't need to tell you this, but you have chosen the most wonderful parents. Your dad has the silliest jokes that can make even the most sour of us laugh. Your mom inspires peace and gives acceptance to everyone she meets. Sometimes your parents and all of your friends that here waiting to meet you, will teach you wonderful things, but mostly you will teach us. Thank you for choosing to bless us with your birth. We love you already.
Your New Friend,
Lydia

The Freedom Journey

Fear not dear friend, for you are immortal.
A beauty that has no end.
Your journey IS your purpose;
Your joyful friend.

There are no bars that bond you,
No ties that hold you down.
Your heart is your compass,
through which all direction is found.

Your soul is ever burning
It shines the brightest light
It is your spirits lantern and will never fear the night.

Walk on, nay, fly on
with courage that knows no bound.
For although your feet may trod there
Your soul shall never meet the ground.

Ocean Magic: for Anderson, Baily, Claire and Mason

Today I saw an angel swimming in the sea.
And a fish flying through the air,
Where a bird had ought to be!
Then I spotted a star, clinging to the ocean floor.
And heard a mermaid singing while sitting on the shore.

Oh, there is magic at the seaside;
A treasure down below!
Watch closely when you frolic there
And you will see it's so.

A Silent Poem by Lydia May

I write to you a silent poem.
For, you need no words to bring you home.
Through the silence of these lines,
Peace you seek, and peace you find.
No thought of words that should come next;
Just pen to paper, without need of text.
The substance forms between the lines.
The movement occurring in its time.
A silent poem.
My gift to you; to me.
For the poet was never I, my friend, but we.
